Food Inc: Where Does our Food Come From?

I finally got around to looking at Food Inc. yesterday, after missing it on PBS last week. It was shocking and scary. It forced me to look at the food industry with brand new eyes and it begs the question: Where does our food come from?

If you haven’t seen Food Inc., I strongly recommend that you get a copy, buy a copy, borrow a copy or order if from Netflicks. Get your family, friends and the folks that you care about to look at it as well. Even if this film just raises curiosity it’s worth the time and effort.

Do you know where our food comes from?

Food Inc. is an expose about our “food system, its effect on our environment, health, economy and workers’ rights.” And it’s not a pretty picture. It speaks very clearly to the disconnect between where we as consumers think our food comes from and where it actually does come from.

Do you know where our food comes from?

Bottom Line: Meat production in this country is inhumane, filthy and downright unhealthy.  And then
there is the plethora of processed foods, pseudo foods – that taste like real food, but are loaded with chemicals and preservatives. Not the stuff that can nourish and sustain human life with any degree of wellness.

Our supermarket shelves tell the truth about our food choices.

Obesity and diabetes rates tell the truth about our food choices.

I encourage everyone who is interested in learning about where our food comes from to look at Food Inc., and to head on over to the Food Inc. website. There are loads of resources there to help us make more informed food choices. There is also a petition to support healthy food choices in schools. This is what the petition states:

“”We believe that federally funded nutrition programs should provide all children with the healthy food they deserve. This includes low fat and safe dairy, fresh fruits and vegetables, and whole grains. Schools should be soda and junk-food-free zones and serve food that complements and furthers parents’ efforts to feed their children healthfully.

If you support this petition then please, please go to their website and sign up.

Food is our body’s first line of defense. It is the fuel that our body needs to function. Garbage in – garbage out as the old saying goes. In the mean time, have a look at the Meatrix movie to learn about the problems with factory farming.
